Psalm 34:1–8 (KJV 1900)
1 I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: The humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3 O magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: And their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encampeth Round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
“ O taste & See that the LORD is Good “
Note: David praise was not DICTATED nor PREDICATED but it was AUTHENTICATED
Dictated — someone demanding him to praise God
Predicated — based off people & problems going good
Authenticated — based off who God is
Psalm 34:8 (ESV)
8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Taste — to find out, conceived of as tasting something
Note: YOU telling me God is good is one thing but ME finding out for myself is another
See — to experience something, conceived of as being present during the experience so as to view
The Main Idea: God will fully satisfy those who trust him to satisfy the longings of their hearts.
I. We Are Invited to Personally Experience Him.
II. We Are Invited to Actively Pursue Him.
III. We Are Invited to Be Fully Satisfied in Him.
Background & Backdrop of Psalm 34
Verse 1 as amazing as those words are
What’s more impressive is WHEN David spoke those words.
As awesome as the content of verse one is.
The context of which the content is spoken is even more impressive.
Because you can't judge a person or a thing solely on content.
But if you really want to understand how powerful something is.
You have to weigh the content up against the context.
If you really want to judge the quality or the fact of something.
Look at the content & the context.
In this particular text what makes Psalm 34:1 even more powerful.
Is understanding what David is going through at this time.
David says I'm going to bless the Lord at all times
And his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
What makes these words so powerful is that David is under attack.
When you read 1st. Samuel chapter 21 & chapter 22
It makes up the context of the content in Psalm 34.
David has been chased by Saul.
David is living from cave to cave.
David is running for his life.
1st. Samuel chapter 21 & chapter 22
David is under attack.
He don't know who to trust.
Everywhere he turns the enemy is after him.
Matter of fact the only way David survive
Is that David had to walk in the camp of the Philistines
Note: Sometimes God will send you to some uncomfortable places just so He can show Himself Mighty.
Jesus in Luke 14:1
Luke 14:1 (KJV 1900)
1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
But the context of this content in Psalm 34
David in 1st Samuel 21
Threw himself on the mercy of king Abimelech
And the only reason the king saved David
Is because David pretended that he had lost his mind
David had to act like a crazy man
And when David was spared by the hand of the king.
David wrote these words to Psalm 34.
This praise came out of David's pressure.
Note: That’s why should have a Journal you write in everyday
“ O Taste & See “

“ I’m going to bless “
Define: Bless — ( Hebrew “ Barak “ ) — to knee, to salute
I’m not going to worry

I’m not going to have a pity party
I’m going to bless
Note: David is saying my life is going to be about praising God [ Clear ]

David was not going to vacillate like church folks do from Sunday to Sunday . ( You want know when David is going thru anything Consistent )
Note: God wasn’t going to have to LOOK for David’s Praise
David has a personal Testimony ( 34:1-10 )
David has a personal Teaching ( 34:11-22 )

Verses 4-8 — David Sought the Lord
Verses 9-16 — David Feared the Lord

Note: You & I have to learn how to make our praise continuous
Psalm 34:1 (KJV 1900)
1 I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Note: The movie Unstoppable nothing could stop that train
David pressure did not produce his praise
But David's pressure perfected his praise.
David’s praise was perpetual [ Never Ending ]
David at this time have been through some stuff
But David’s praise is not builded off of MATERIAL THINGS
His praise is not builded off PEOPLE
His praise is not builded off of POSSESSIONS
His praise is BUILDED off off God’s PRESENCE
Note: David a lot of times in his circumstances is not SEEKING RELIEF but he’s seeking the PRESENCE of God
“ O Taste & See “

2nd: David had a CONVINCING praise ( V. 2 )

David is saying something in me got HAPPY
And the something in me has an affect on people around me
David is saying somebody was listening at me & looking at me
And they was looking to see
If my anointing was aligned with my actions [ Walter & Charles see me ]
Statement : Your praise want mean NOTHING to God until it means everything to you.
Note: David says “ My Soul “ is the core of who I AM
Who I AM is not the clothes I’m wearing
Who I AM is not the Truck I’m driving
Who I AM is not the Watch I’m wearing
Who I AM is not the Job I’m at
Who I AM is not the church I go to
“ O Taste & See “

One person wearing Earring in the noise ( contagious )
One person wearing Earring in the eyebrow ( contagious )
One person wearing Earring in the belly button ( contagious )
One person starts wearing wigs ( contagious )
One person go to gym & lose weight ( contagious )
Note: But when it comes down to the church everything becomes isolated

3 O magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt his name together.
Most people who is contagious are quarantine
They can’t be in the general population
Most people that are contagious
has to be locked up in a room with other contagious people or all by themselves.
But when you are infected with the Holy Ghost
He want your infections to have an affection on other people
Verse 1: David is praising God by himself
Note: Because people might know how good God is but they have no idea how good God’s been to David & to you
